Southern Iron County Severe Weather Action Plan
Click Ready to Prepare for Winter Weather
The following steps will take place if there is a Winter Weather threat to the Southern End of Iron County. Sometimes the Annapolis – Iron County Emergency Management Team will know if we have a potential threat early. They are in regular communication with Iron County Emergency Management Agency and Missouri State Emergency Management Agency.
The Annapolis – Iron County Emergency Management team starts to monitor the Winter Weather models and weather outlook days in advance. A couple of days before the potential for the emergency management team will give updates on the potential weather. This will give you time to have a food supply, emergency supplies, medications, and heating supply to get you through the winter weather.
On the day of the potential severe weather, the following steps are activated.
Alerts will be given on the Annapolis MO Facebook page regularly, but always watch other news resources as well. We will monitor the amount of winter weather and if it is causing disturbances in power or road hazards.
In case of an emergency call 911 immediately, do not hesitate to call. In Winter Weather first responders may have an extended arrival time.

1) Monitoring and Preparation:
The Annapolis – Iron County Emergency Management Team will monitor and prepare for the incoming winter weather and send alerts out before weather ever enters our area. Make direct contact with critical organizations and businesses.
2) Winter Weather Watch:
If a Winter Weather Watch is active for the southern end of Iron County, we will see that we have a shelter available in case of a power outage. All critical businesses and organizations are contacted directly.
2 – A) Snow or Ice Accumulation:
If the power goes out during or after snow or ice affects our area you most likely will not be able to get to the Annapolis shelter. If we are expecting a significant accumulation of snow or ice, we would ask anyone that wants to seek shelter to call (573) 546-4000 when a Winter Weather Watch is issued. This way we will know if we need to open the shelter before the incoming weather and how many to expect.
2 – B) Shelter Opening:
If we do not get any phone calls from anyone wanting to come to the shelter before the impending weather it will not be open.
3) Winter Weather Warning:
If a Winter Weather Warning is issued for the south end of Iron County, we encourage everyone to be indoors and keep warm. If you’re going to stay at the shelter during the winter weather, it is advised that you go to the shelter before a warning is issued. All critical businesses and organizations are contacted directly.
3 – A) Shelter Opening Power Outage:
Contact Emergency Management if you have no power and need a shelter opened.
